It makes the handle easier to transport and also means that you effectively get two handles in one as you can fish with each independently. The 1.3m section and 1.8m section gives you a huge range of bankside versatility with the added bonus of allowing you to quickly attach the first section to the second in order to create the full 3m handle in tight swims.
